Manchester United are reportedly ready to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the signature of the out-of-favor Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti
The Frenchman has lost his place in the Blaugrana’s starting eleven last season to Clement Lenglet and has been forced out of action on numerous occasions due to a nasty knee injury.
Desperate to rejuvenate his career after enduring a difficult period, the 26-year-old may be tempted with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal showing huge appreciation for his services.
However, the Red Devils have now joined the race for the former Lyon man as their negotiations with Leicester City over the transfer of Harry Maguire hit another stumbling block.
Only a couple of days ago, Maguire’s move to Old Trafford seemed to be a matter of time, but the Foxes’ urge to keep hold of their star defender may cause the transfer collapse at the 11th hour.
Although United agreed to match Leicester’s staggering €80m asking price to bring the 26-year-old on board, Ed Woodward has already held talks with the Catalans over Umtiti’s availability should he fails to close the deal for the England international.
As reported by the British news outlet, Metro, Manchester United are ready to splash out €50m for the France international, while La Liga giants value their centre-back at €60m, which seems like a manageable distance.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is, however, still hopeful of getting Maguire’s deal over the line after naming him his top defensive target this transfer window.
The Norwegian’s hopes have received a huge boost after the ex-Sheffield United central defender refused to show up at Leicester’s training, forcing the club’s hierarchy to sanction his move to the three-time Champions League winners.
