Manchester United look to hijack Real Madrid move for Ajax’s Donny van de Beek

Manchester United will try to hijack Donny van de Beek’s transfer from Ajax to Real Madrid this summer, reports in England say

Real Madrid seemed to be on the verge of landing Van de Beek last summer, but after failing to cut ties with Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez, they had to leave the Dutchman in the Eredivisie for another season.

Although the 22-year-old was expected to link up with Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season, Manchester United could spoil that plan, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to hijack Madrid’s move.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils will make a ‘last-ditch offer’ for the Netherlands international to lure him to Old Trafford and hand the Bernabeu outfit a blow.

Van de Beek emerged as one of the most sought-after young properties in Europe last season, helping Ajax reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and win the domestic title.

The highly-rated box-to-box midfielder has proved he is not a ‘one-season wonder’ this term, recording ten goals and 11 assists for the Lancers in all competitions.

Known for his bursting runs into the channels as well as pinpoint passing, Van de Beek is an example of a perfect modern midfielder that could serve United as a long-term replacement for Paul Pogba.
