Manchester United could reportedly launch a summer bid to land Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota, reports from England suggest
After bringing in Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now keen to recruit another Portuguese forward as he bids to restore United to Europe’s elite.
As per the Daily Star, the Red Devils are readying a summer offer for Wolves in-form winger Diogo Jota, as they prepare a massive overhaul of a squad that has failed to live up to expectations this year.
United and Wolves are both in contention for the top-four finish in the Premier League and are also very much in the race for the UEFA Europa League trophy.
But, if the Old Trafford outfit manage to secure Champions League football for the 2020/21 campaign, they will try to use it as leverage to secure Jota’s signature.
The 23-year-old has been a regular first-team player under Nuno Espirito Santo this term, racking up two hat-tricks in all competitions, including the one against Espanyol on Thursday.
Known for his devastating pace and bursting runs down both flanks, the former Atletico Madrid man has also been able to showcase consistency throughout the season, which is something Solskjaer desperately needs at United.
It is still uncertain whether Jota would swap the Molineux for the Theatre of Dreams, but the lure of linking up with his compatriot Bruno Fernandes may be too tempting to resist if the prospect presents itself.
Manchester United are expected to have a busy summer, particularly in light of Paul Pogba’s uncertain future at the club, and the Portugal international could be one of Solskjaer’s first summer signings.
