Manchester United have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for out-of-favor AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to reports from England
The Red Devils desperately need a new forward after Marcus Rashford picked up a long-term injury and have identified Piatek as a potential answer to their goalscoring issues.
As reported by the British outlet, Metro, United have approached Milan to ask about the Pole’s availability before Rashford’s injury.
While their initial contact may have had an informal tone, the Premier League giants will have to accelerate their interest in the 24-year-old in light of current events.
Indeed, Lyon have recently played down talks about Moussa Dembele’s potential move to Old Trafford, forcing United to find other options.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now poised to beat Tottenham to the former Cracovia man, who has found his first-team opportunities at San Siro restricted after the Rossoneri re-signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Piatek was a revelation last season when he racked up 19 goals in 21 outings for Genoa, which recommended him to the Milanese heavyweights.
However, the Poland international has failed to live up to expectations at San Siro, managing just 16 goals in 40 appearances for Stefano Pioli’s side.
Although Piatek flopped in Italy’s fashion capital, Milan are still looking to recoup €35m they splashed out to take him away from Genoa last year, which could be throwing a spanner in the works.
