Manchester United have reportedly overtaken the race for the in-demand Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz, according to the latest reports in England
Widely regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe, Havertz is expected to make a big-money move when the transfer window reopens for business.
Several prominent European sides have already taken an interest in the 20-year-old prodigy, with Juventus, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool all credited with an interest in the highly-rated German playmaker.
But, as reported by the Daily Mail, in order to outfox stiff competition for Havertz, Manchester United are ready to launch a £50million bid to test Leverkusen’s stance.
Although the Red Devils are reportedly in the driving seat at the moment, the Bundesliga giants are unlikely to accept the proposed sum, as they hope to obtain at least £80million for their prized asset.
Able to cover multiple positions in the final third, Havertz emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents when he clocked up 20 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances in 2018/19.
Even though the last season remains the German’s most prolific in his early professional career, Havertz has been nothing short of outstanding since the Bundesliga returned to action after the coronavirus pandemic.
Indeed, he has been Leverkusen’s driving force since the German top-flight restarted earlier this month, scoring a pair of braces and adding another goal in four league matches.
Manchester United will continue to pursuit Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but the Englishman’s £100million asking price could deter the Red Devils from making an offer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add a top-class player to his attacking options this summer, as Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata seem destined to leave Old Trafford when the season ends.
