Manchester United’s first effort to land Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka has come a cropper, according to the latest reports from England
The Red Devils will be looking to return to the top of the English and European football next season following an underwhelming campaign.
One of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest concerns ahead of the new season is United’s fragile defense that has struggled to impress throughout the entire season both in the Premier League and the Champions League.
With Antonio Valencia edging closer the Old Trafford exit, the Norwegian manager will be left with the aging Ashley Young and the relatively inexperienced Diogo Dalot as his only options for the right-back position.
As a result, Solskjaer has identified Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka as his prime objective to strengthen his defensive department in the summer.
However, the Eagles are reluctant to renounce their indispensable first-team member without a substantial compensation fee, which is a stumbling block the Red Devils have yet to overcome.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United’s £40m bid for the 21-year-old has already been turned down, with the South Londoners reportedly demanding £60 million to sanction the move.
Having collected 39 top-flight outings for Crystal Palace last term, Wan-Bissaka has established himself as one of the best right-backs in England.
The England U21 international ticks many of the boxes for the type of player United are hoping to acquire this summer, although it’s still uncertain whether or not they will meet Crystal Palace’s massive demand.
