In-demand Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt believes his transfer won’t exceed Frenkie de Jong’s £65million move to Barcelona should he depart Johan Cruyff Arena this summer
Emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, the 19-year-old centre-back will probably follow in the footsteps of his fellow Lancers teammate De Jong and join some of Europe’s best clubs at the end of the season.
The youngster’s burgeoning talent has attracted interest from a host of European heavyweights, including Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Although numerous rumors have indicated that Ajax captain will cost more than £75million splashed out for Virgil van Dijk, De Ligt doesn’t share the same opinion.

“Will I be more expensive than Frenkie? I don’t think so, no,” he said.
“Normally teams spend more money on midfield players than defenders.
“I really don’t know.
“It’s up to Ajax – it’s not something that I decide. We shall see.”
Barcelona seem to be leading the race for the super-talented teenager if the latest suggestions turn out to be true, as they reportedly look to link him up with his partner in crime, Frenkie de Jong.
