David Beckham’s Inter Miami are on the verge of announcing their first marquee signing after agreeing on personal terms with the Juventus veteran Blaise Matuidi
After failing to strike an agreement with Edinson Cavani, who recently dropped to a free-agent pool after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired, Beckham has crossed over to Matuidi.
According to the SPORTbible, the parties have already come to terms, with the 33-year-old midfielder expected to undergo a medical in Paris ahead of putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.
Matuidi will, therefore, become Inter Miami’s first high-profile signing since the franchise’s Major League Soccer inauguration earlier this year.
Beckham’s side have lost all five of their top-flight fixtures since their competitive debut in March this year.
With that said, the English legend is eager to overhaul his squad ahead of the new season.
Matuidi, who shared the pitch with Beckham during the 45-year-old’s brief spell at Paris Saint-Germain, should bring much-needed experience and winning mentality to Inter.
The 33-year-old Frenchman swapped PSG for Juventus in 2017 and has gone on to register 133 appearances for perennial Serie A champions.
But, the arrivals of Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot have seen the tenacious box-to-box midfielder tumble down the pecking order this term.
Having already entered the final 12 months of his contract in Turin, the aging star is keen to secure one final lucrative deal before hanging up his boots.
