Mesut Ozil has thanked the fans for their support but has slammed Arsenal’s second-half performance against Watford
For the first time this season, the German playmaker featured Unai Emery’s starting XI, in a 2-2 away draw with Watford, and he gave his contribution by playing a delightful pass to Ainsley Maitland-Niles in Arsenal’s second goal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s first-half brace seemed to have put the Gunners in firm control ahead of the second period, but things went wrong for the visitors after the halftime break.
Arsenal defenders have shot themselves in the foot once again, as they were guilty of several defensive mishaps that helped the Hornets bounce back and walk away with a point.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos first gifted the ball in his own penalty area, allowing Tom Cleverly to pull one back before David Luiz conceded a penalty that let Roberto Pereyra complete Watford’s comeback.
Furious with the way his teammates performed in the second half, Mesut Ozil went public to express his frustration.
Two points dropped. Annoying second half, in the end we have to settle for a disappointing draw. Let's try to bounce back soon. Thanks for your support at Vicarage road ❤ #M1Ö @premierleague @Arsenal pic.twitter.com/lT5Kf8cjpN— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) September 15, 2019
Winless in their last three Premier League outings – two draws and a loss, the north London giants sit seventh in the table, seven points adrift of league toppers Liverpool.
But, Emery has to worry about his team’s continuous defensive problems that have seen them concede eight league goals after five rounds of fixtures.
Also, the Gunners allowed 35 goals on the road last season, more than any other side that finished in the upper half of the table in the 2018/19 campaign.
What’s more, Emery’s side have allowed ten goals from the spot-kick since the beginning of last season, which is another infamous record owned by Arsenal.
