Mesut Ozil has played down rumors regarding his Arsenal departure, insisting he will see out his contract at the Emirates
Heavily linked with a switch away from north London, the German playmaker had found himself on the fringes of the Gunners squad under Unai Emery earlier in the season.
Ozil was handed just eight Premier League starts during Emery’s tenure and has been expected to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.
However, his position at the club has changed since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, as the new boss reintegrated the 31-year-old into the Londoners starting XI, fielding him from the first minute in all seven top-flight games in charge.
Although he has regained the first-team status, the former Real Madrid man has performed well below his standards, failing to make any sorts of impact under Arteta thus far.
Speculations about his departure are continuous, but Ozil insists he expects to stay at Arsenal until 2021 when his contract is due to expire.Daily Mirror.
“The thing I can do is give everything for the team, for myself, to be successful, and let’s see what happens.
“What I know is that I will give everything for this club, for my teammates.
“We’ve had a difficult season, but we want to win games again, to take points, to maybe be in the top four at the end of the season.
“Our goal is to be in the Champions League. This year we had difficult times, but I think we’re in a good way.”
The Gunners are facing another disappointing season in the Premier League and are set to miss out on Champions League promotion for the fourth season in a row.
Ozil is said to be one of the players Arsenal will be looking to get rid of next summer to raise funds for new signings, and his future will, therefore, depend on whether Arteta’s men can miraculously secure the top-four finish.
