Mikel Oyarzabal not interested in making Manchester City switch

Real Sociedad star forward Mikel Oyarzabal has responded to rumors about his switch to the Premier League amid Manchester City links

Manchester City are on the lookout for a new forward, as Leroy Sane seems to be edging closer towards moving to the ranks of the reigning Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich.

Oyarzabal has emerged as one of Pep Guardiola’s top targets for the January transfer window, even though the Spanish manager has recently insisted City will not make any moves this winter.

The 22-year-old has been Sociedad’s standout performer alongside Martin Odegaard, who has also appeared on Guardiola’s radar in the past couple of months.

While enjoying a rise to the stardom at the Anoeta Stadium, Oyarzabal has racked up seven goals and four assists in La Liga, helping his side reach the top-five.

His performances for the Basque-based outfit have not gone unnoticed, but the Spain international has revealed his desire to focus on giving his best for his team rather than listening to the rumors.

“I don’t pay attention at all to those rumors,” said Oyarzabal, as reported by the Daily Express.

“I am focused on my work at la Real.

“I have never thought about [playing in another league].

“I am very young, and I hope to have a long career. I don’t know what the future has prepared for me.”

Sitting four points adrift of fourth-placed Sevilla, Real Sociedad are very much in contention for one of four Champions League slots, although they’ve suffered a dip in form recently.

Oyarzabal and his teammates face another challenging task this weekend as they head to the Benito Villamarín to take on Betis on Sunday.
