Mixed Fortunes As Champions League Group Draw Released

    English teams got mixed fortunes on paper following the conclusion of the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League draw. The event, which doubled as an award ceremony for Europe’s best players was held on Thursday evening in Monaco.The pre-event talk revolved around around Liverpool potentially being pooled in the ‘group of death. As it turns out, the Reds will contest Group C with French champions PSG, Napoli and minnows Red Star Belgrade.It was however North London side Tottenham Hotspur that seems hard done by the draw. In Group B, they will face Spanish giants Barcelona as well as Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven. Spurs also have the presence of a tricky Inter Milan side to deal with. The Italians are making a return to the Champions League after a spell on the sidelines.

    United’s Champions League chances?

    Unlike in recent years, Manchester United have a real test on their hands in the group stages. In Group H, old boy Cristiano Ronaldo will be back at Old Trafford as Juventus headlines the pool. Also in the pool is Valencia and Young Boys. United have struggled against Spanish opposition and were knocked out by Sevilla at Old Trafford last season.It remains to be seen whether or not English sides can finally break the Spanish jinx that has been evident in the last six seasons.
