Nagelsmann heaps praise on Haaland

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has been full of praise for the Borussia Dortmund marksman Erling Braut Haaland.

Haaland played a starring role in Dortmund’s comfortable 3-1 victory over Leipzig on Saturday evening. The 20-year-old striker notched up a second-half brace at the Red Bull Arena following Jadon Sancho’s opener to maintain his brilliant form for Die Borussen. As a result, the Norwegian goal-machine has taken his tally for the season to 12 goals in only ten Bundesliga outings!

An all-important triumph against Nagelsmann’s side has propelled Dortmund to within five points of Bundesliga pacesetters Bayern Munich. In the meantime, Haaland has bridged a gap on the league top-scorer Robert Lewandowski, who already has 20 Bundesliga goals to his name this season. Indeed, the former Molde starlet is enjoying another phenomenal campaign, having also racked up six goals in four Champions League appearances.

Naglesmann knows Haaland is the man who requires special attention, as he was spot on with the Norway international’s insane Bundesliga stats.

“Erling [Haaland] we could have defended, but not if the players around him have too much space in a one-against-four situation,” the 33-year-old said, as relayed by Diario AS.

“Of course, he is an exceptional striker – this is why we wanted him, too. Dortmund got him.

“I think he just scored 25 goals in 25 Bundesliga games, something like that. It is truly extraordinary. Unbelievable stats.”

Haaland appears to be relishing the prospect of facing Leipzig, as yesterday’s double means he scored four times in two matches versus Die Roten Bullen. Nagelsmann has not missed the chance to bring that up.

“This is not the first goal he scored against us. He has some serious quality and is very young.

“So, I think I can’t judge him as well as our opponent, but he for sure has some potential to develop. He will get even better.

“And the league will have a lot of joy with him. Not the opponents, though.”
