Nagelsmann reacts to Real Madrid links

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has reacted to the recent rumors linking him with a Real Madrid takeover.

While enjoying his rise to stardom at TSG Hoffenheim, Nagelsmann has established himself as one of the most highly-rated managers in Europe’s top-five leagues. Currently in charge of RB Leipzig, the 33-year-old German has helped Die Roten Bullen become a genuine title challenger in the Bundesliga. Only last season, his team reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished third in the German top-flight.

Under Nagelsmann, Leipzig are playing exciting, eye-catching football. Lightning-fast transitions, quick passage of play, and devastating counter-attacks make the newly-found European force one of the most entertaining sides to watch. In fact, everything Naglesmann has accomplished with Leipzig is what the Real Madrid supporters have been hoping for since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Santiago Bernabeu two-and-a-half years ago. Having that said, he has emerged as a potential candidate to replace under-fire Zinedine Zidane in the Real dugout.

The Frenchman has come under scrutiny after overseeing his team exit Copa del Rey to lower-league outfit Alcoyano. The cup elimination is only the tip of the iceberg. Los Blancos have struggled to impress in the Champions League this term, claiming a place in the competition’s knock-out stage only thanks to a Matchday 6 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach. Furthermore, Real currently sit seven points adrift of La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in the domestic championship, with Diego Simeone’s men having a game in hand on the cross-town rivals.

As such, Zidane’s future in the Spanish capital is hanging in the balance, with several managers reportedly competing to replace the 48-year-old. Nagelsmann is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing names in the mix, though his contract at Leipzig runs out in summer 2023. However, the German tactician is not immune to Real Madrid’s charm but refuses to be dragged into newspaper talks.

“There are definitely worse things to read,” Nagelsmann reacted to the Real Madrid links, per Sky Sports Germany.

“But I also know that things that are written in the newspapers are not always true.”
