Al-Khelaifi: ‘Neymar and Mbappe will remain at PSG’

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is adamant Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will remain at the Parc des Princes beyond the summer

PSG bigwig Nasser Al-Khelaifi has reiterated the club’s resolve to keep both Neymar and Mbappe in the French capital following a 2-1 win over Atalanta in the revamped Champions League quarter-finals.

Perennial Ligue 1 champions performed a stunning late turnaround to squeeze past a combative Italian side and reach their first-ever Champions League semi-finals.

Mario Pasalic broke the deadlock in the 27th minute to put Gian Piero Gasperini’s men in front.

However, Neymar laid on an assist to Marquinhos for the equalizing goal in the 90th minute before Mbappe set up Maxim Choupo-Moting for a complete comeback three minutes into the stoppage time.

The ‘Parisians’ will, therefore, appear in the competition’s semis for the first time, and Al-Khelaifi believes it will help the club keep hold of their two headline performers.

“They are amongst the best in the world. Neymar was the best player on the pitch and had a great game: he and Mbappe’ won’t leave, they’ll stay at PSG,” he said, as reported by the renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Despite wasting a few clear-cut chances, Neymar was driving his team forward, setting the Champions League record for 16 successful dribble attempts in a single match!

Neymar and Mbappe have both been heavily linked with big-money moves to La Liga over the past few months.

While Barcelona desperately want a reunion with the Brazilian dynamo, Real Madrid have identified the French speed demon as Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term successor.

But, due to the financial uncertainty of the coronavirus crisis, both sides have to postpone their transfer actions for the time being.

Al-Khelaifi has also heaped praise on PSG’s efforts to fight their way through to the Champions League final-four.

“I’m very proud. I thank the players and the staff. It’s the first time we make it to the semi-final. It’s historic.

“Our goal is to make it to the end, but we can’t focus on the final. Everyone doubts PSG, but we have a marvelous setting here.”
