Neymar ready to extend with PSG on one condition

Neymar will only consider pledging his long-term future to Paris Saint-Germain if one condition is met, according to the latest claims.

Neymar has always been a polarizing figure, depending on which side of the spectrum of liking him you stand. But, the Brazilian forward is an absolute word-class and is indispensable for PSG. He and Kylian Mbappe are the twin pillars upon which PSG’s domestic and continental success rests.

Therefore, ‘Les Parisiens’ are hell-bent on tying him down to a new long-term deal.

The 28-year-old, whose contract in Paris runs out in summer 2022, has, however, been reluctant to discuss fresh terms with the Ligue 1 powerhouse. Neymar’s decision on whether or not he will extend his stay at the Parc des Princes will ultimately depend on one major factor.

As reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Neymar is desperate to reunite with his former teammate and close friend Lionel Messi, whose future at Barcelona is hanging in the balance.

The two, along with Luis Suarez, have formed one of the most formidable attacking partnerships football has ever seen. The famous MSN trio has fallen apart, but the three of them have maintained a close relationship. Indeed, it’s no secret that Messi and Neymar are still in touch despite the latter departing Camp Nou in 2017.

Despite putting in his maximum efforts to leave Barcelona last summer, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner has eventually stayed put in Catalonia. It’s, however, uncertain whether the club’s new board will be able to lure the Argentine into signing a new contract that would probably tie him down to Barca until his retirement.

On the other hand, reminiscing about the tremendous success the two shared during their time at Camp Nou, Neymar feels nostalgic and eager to replicate that experience again. As part of his efforts to reunite with his mate, the ex-Santos youth academy graduate has released an eye-catching statement, insisting he wants to play with Messi again.

Neymar’s tweet has caught the eye of the French press, prompting rumors about him mounting pressure on the PSG recruiting team to bring Messi to Paris.

Since his contract at Barca expires next summer, the 33-year-old will be free to choose his next destination and sign a pre-agreement on moving to a foreign club as early as January. PSG have the economic capacity and infrastructure to handle the financial requirements Messi’s signature would impose.

The only other solution for the two to wear the same jersey again is for Neymar to return to the Blaugrana. That, however, seems to be a long shot, especially given the coronavirus crisis has put the squeeze on Barcelona’s finances. Furthermore, the candidates running for the presidential seat at the club are extremely divided on the prospect of re-signing the Brazilian.
