Martin Odegaard is on the verge of completing his six-month loan move from Real Madrid to Arsenal, reports in England say.
Arsenal and Real Madrid have been trying to broker Odegaard’s switch to the Premier League for weeks. According to the recent claims, the parties have reached an agreement for the 22-year-old to spend the remainder of the season in London. The Norwegian playmaker has now passed medical checks, and the official announcement is expected to come within the next 24 hours, via Sky Sports.
Odegaard has been a bit-part player in Zinedine Zidane’s set-up this season after enjoying a stellar season-long loan at Real Sociedad in 2019/20. Indeed, he has featured just seven times in La Liga this season, registering only three top-flight starts in the process. Having found his first-team opportunities at a premium, the former Stromsgodset youngster now looks to rejuvenate his career at Arsenal.
Known for his vision and inch-perfect passing ability, Odegaard is the type of player Mikel Arteta has been crying out for since Mesut Ozil’s career at the Emirates faltered. The German playmaker left the Gunners to join Fenerbahce earlier in January, freeing up a slot for a new attacking-minded midfielder to come in. Arsenal should provide Odegaard with plenty of game time in the wake of Ozil’s departure and help him rediscover his mojo.
Real Sociedad were reportedly in the race for re-signing Odegaard on another temporary deal, but Real Madrid only wanted to see their fringe star go outside La Liga. Therefore, the left-footed playmaker will soon team up with another Los Blancos’ loanee, Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard enjoys his second season at Arsenal after failing to convince Zidane to hand him regular top-flight football at Santiago Bernabeu. However, Thomas Partey’s summer arrival has pushed the 24-year-old down the pecking order.
If reports are to be trusted, Ceballos could find himself on the way out of London once Odegaard’s move becomes official.
