Official: Heung-Min Son commits his long-term future to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed via the club’s official website that Son Heung-Min has penned a new long-term contract.

Spurs refused to hide their excitement for tying Son down to a new four-year deal as they took to their website to announce the good news on Friday.

The news about the South Korea international’s new contract comes as a massive morale boost amid ongoing speculations about Harry Kane’s departure.

Son and Kane have been Tottenham’s headline performers over the past few years, shouldering the goalscoring burden often on their own.

Since completing his €30million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2015, the 29-year-old has turned into one of the Premier League’s fiercest forwards.

During his six-year stint in London, the quicksilver winger has clocked up 107 goals and 64 assists in 280 appearances across all competitions.

Son’s blistering showings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have earned him high acclaim from Spurs supremo Daniel Levy, who was keen to hand the Korean a new deal for quite a while.

The ex-Hamburger star was nothing short of outstanding last season, tallying 17 goals and ten assists in 37 Premier League outings to complete the campaign as Tottenham’s second-most productive player.

Widely regarded as one of the finest forwards in England’s top-flight, Son spoke highly of his decision to commit his long-term future to the north London side.

“It was already a big honour to play here for six years, the Club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon.”
