Zlatan Ibrahimovic and AC Milan have reached an agreement over a contract extension that will keep the Swede at the San Siro for another year.
After a breathtaking Major Soccer League journey, Ibrahimovic returned to Europe last winter to have one lost shot at the highest football stage.
Having deliberately picked out-of-sorts Milan as his final European destination, the Sweden international has proved that age doesn’t matter in his case.
Aging like a fine wine, Zlatan has almost single-handedly turned a somewhat lost side into genuine title contenders in Serie A, doing that at 39!
‘Ibracadabra’ has registered 15 goals in 17 league appearances this season, navigating Milan to the second in the standings and on the cusp of returning to the Champions League.
The Rossoneri are desperate to end a seven-year wait for the Champions League, last featuring in the competition under Massimiliano Allegri in 2013/14.
Who else but Zlatan was brought in to help the team find their feet in domestic football and stake their claim for a glamorous return to Europe’s elite club competition.
And Ibrahimovic has delivered. Stefano Pioli’s men have developed a great affection for the superstar forward, who has been a true leader on and off the field.
In the meantime, Paolo Maldini and co have been working around the clock to persuade the veteran to put pen to paper on a new contract.
As confirmed by the club’s official statement, Ibrahimovic will continue wearing the coveted red-black shirt for at least one more season.
Thrilled by the Swede’s decision to renew his deal, Milan released the following statement: “AC Milan has announced that the Club has extended Zlatan Ibrahimović’s contract. AC Milan is the Club for which Zlatan has played the most in Italy. After scoring 84 goals in 130 appearances with the Rossoneri, the Swedish striker will continue to be wearing the red and black jersey next season.”
Meanwhile, in a true ‘Ibrahimovic’ fashion, the striker has taken to social media to express his feelings.
