Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal
Fernandes has been linked with a move away from the Estadio da Luz after falling out of favor with manager Bruno Lage, with West Ham United emerging as the leading candidates to secure his services.
However, Spurs, who have joined the race recently, have beaten London rivals to Fernandes’ signature, as the 21-year-old youngster becomes Jose Mourinho’s first signing as the Tottenham boss.
According to BBC, Tottenham can make the Portuguese midfielder’s transfer permanent once his loan spell ends, although the figures remain unknown for the moment.

After Mousa Sissoko sustained a nasty injury that will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future, Mourinho had to find an alternative to keep his squad competitive in both England and Europe.
Although Fernandes has not featured in Benfica’s starting XI since late October, he is still widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in European football.
The Portugal international made a breakthrough last season, racking up three goals and six assists in all competitions for the Eagles.
