Arsenal swept Rennes aside with a commanding 3-0 home victory in the return leg of their Europa League last-16 tie to advance to the quarter-finals
The absolute hero of the Gunners’ impressive comeback was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who dumped the French outfit out of the competition almost singlehandedly.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker was the one to open the scoring in the 5th minute before setting up Ainsley Maitland-Niles for the second in the 15th minute.
Although the visitors pushed for a so-much needed goal, the 29-year-old sealed Arsenal’s triumph in the 72nd minute, and has again drawn the attention upon himself.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had this mask ready when he came off the bench to take the penalty in the final moments of the north London derby, according to @MarkyMBryans. He missed the penalty and didn't get to wear the mask. Also, a reminder that this man soon turns 30. pic.twitter.com/vUGtIaewq5— Daily Hotspur (@Daily_Hotspur) March 14, 2019
Aubameyang’s goal celebrations have always been something special, but the Gabonese star has once again come up with a brilliant idea.
After scoring the third goal, Aubameyang put a Black Panther mask on to celebrate.
Unlike the other masks he used in the past (Batman, Spiderman), this one has a special meaning to the pacey forward.
“I needed a mask that would represent me,” Aubameyang told BT Sport.
“It’s a Black Panther, and in Africa, in Gabon, we call the national team the Panthers of Gabon.”
