Premier League Matchday 17 Predictions – Thursday

Thursday’s Premier League action brings up another set of exciting fixtures as we preview all three match-ups for you.

Brace yourself for another enthralling evening in England’s elite competition.

    Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

King Power Stadium plays host to a mid-table Premier League showdown between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Brendan Rodgers’ men brushed a lowly Newcastle United aside with an overwhelming 4-0 victory last time out to break a two-game winless league streak (D1, L1).

Yet, Leicester’s topsy-turvy domestic campaign sees them go into the business end of the calendar year hovering in mid-table, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Spurs have hit the ground running under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, stringing together three Premier League triumphs in a row to climb up the ladder.

The Londoners are seventh in the standings, but they have three games in hand over Arsenal, whom they trail by four points.

Another win at the King Power Stadium, where they’ve won three of their last five top-flight fixtures (L2), could be a season-defining moment for Tottenham.

After Leicester, they’ll have two mouth-watering Premier League match-ups on their hands as they go up against Liverpool and West Ham in the upcoming two matchdays.

    Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea and Everton go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge in contrasting circumstances.

A lack of consistency has seen the Blues pick up just two wins in their last four Premier League outings (D1, L1), surrendering the top place to Manchester City in the process.

Sat five points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of the kick-off, the reigning Champions League holders have to make the most out of their game-in-hand.

Luckily for Thomas Tuchel’s lads, they are up against an out-of-sorts Everton that have only won one of their last ten top-flight matches (D2, L7).

The Toffees have failed to build on a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Arsenal, falling to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday as they continue to struggle in the bottom half of the table.

A run of five consecutive scoring blanks at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League (D1, L4) douses any embers of optimism in the traveling camp when it comes to a potential upset.

    Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Midweek Premier League action closes out at Anfield as second-placed Liverpool take on second-from-the-bottom Newcastle United in a seemingly straightforward task.

Following in the footsteps of direct title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, Liverpool cashed in on a game-winning penalty over the weekend to make it two league wins on the trot.

Mohamed Salah slotted home a decisive penalty to fire the Reds to an all-important 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, their second league triumph by that exact scoreline after their trip to Wolverhampton on December 4.

Now owning a five-match winning run in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s men will be odds-on favorites to edge past relegation-threatened Newcastle.

Despite winning just one of their opening 16 Premier League fixtures (D7, L8), the Magpies are still within touching distance of safety, languishing two points adrift of 17th-placed Watford.

However, with no side recording fewer away points in England’s top-flight than Newcastle (three – D3, L5) so far this season, the visitors already look like a doomed outfit here.
