Martin Odegaard has returned to Real Madrid following an impressive loan spell at Real Sociedad
Although he was initially expected to spend two seasons with Real Sociedad on the name of a verbal agreement between the parties, Odegaard has returned to the Santiago Bernabeu a year earlier.
The 21-year-old joined the Basque outfit only last summer for regular first-team action due to fierce competition in Zinedine Zidane’s midfield.
Odegaard has been nothing short of outstanding at the Reale Arena, clocking up seven goals and nine assists in 36 appearances for Sociedad in 2019/20.
The Norwegian’s blistering showings for Imanol Alguacil’s side have earned him high acclaims from Zidane and a premature return to the Spanish capital.
An early Champions League exit to Manchester City and the coronavirus crisis have struck a massive blow to Real Madrid’s finances, forcing newly-crowned La Liga champions to bring the youngster back to the fold.

Odegaard has bid an emotional farewell to the Real Sociedad fans in a video posted by the club on social media.
“I have lived incredible moments with this shirt — my first game at Reale Arena, my first goal, our qualification for Europe, and much more,” he said.
“You have made me feel like just another canterano (academy graduate) with all the affection on the field and off the field every day.
“I will never forget. I wish the best for the club, the coach and my team-mates.”
In response to Odegaard’s statement, Real Sociedad shared a post confirming his departure.
“It’s difficult to leave such an impression in such a short amount of time,” the Basque club wrote on Twitter, as relayed by the Evening Standard.
“We wish you the best. Thank you, Martintxo.”
