Ronaldo and Messi set to miss out on Ballon d’Or for the first time in 11 years

According to the reports from the Italian news outlet, Tuttosport, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi won’t be among the final three candidates to lift the Ballon d’Or this year.

The same source states that one of Kylian Mbappe, Raphael Varane, and Luka Modric will be a man that will claim the flattering prize.

Considering Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League last season, and looking at Croatia’s astonishing result at the recent World Cup final tournament, Luka Modric is named the biggest favorite to win the race.

Ronaldo and Messi, on the other hand, won’t make it to the ultimate prize as things stand. The Portuguese and the Argentinean have wrapped up every single award since 2007.

However, it seems that their 11-year dominance in European football will come to an end as the duo failed to live a mark in Russia.

Among the remaining contestants for the Ballon d’Or are Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba, but it’s hard to expect one of them to go all the way down to the final three.
