Solskjaer offers update on Edinson Cavani future at Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered an update on Edinson Cavani’s future at Manchester United amid Boca Juniors links.

The 34-year-old striker joined United as a free agent after running down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

Cavani signed a one-year deal at Old Trafford with an option to extend for another season upon his deadline-day arrival last summer.

Despite enduring a series of injury setbacks, the Uruguayan star has become a permanent fixture under Solskjaer, having gobbled six goals and a pair of assists in 18 Premier League matches this term.

However, the all-time PSG top-scorer has grown unsatisfied with his life in Manchester, prompting rumors about his potential move to South America with Boca Juniors.

Cavani has reportedly held talks with Boca’s vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme to understand the terms of a potential transfer to La Bombonera.

His father has recently fuelled speculations about the Premier League departure, revealing there is a 60% chance for his son to link up with the Argentinean powerhouse.

Solskjaer, who sees the veteran forward as a valuable asset, has now tried to silence the rumors.

The Norwegian manager insists the Red Devils are negotiating a contract extension with Cavani, who has proved immensely useful in terms of experience and influence on United’s youngsters.

“We are speaking to Eddy,” Solskjaer said, as quoted by Goal. “Edinson is a top striker, and whatever he decides to do, let’s see. We are in good dialogue with him.

“We want a competitive squad, and we need someone up there to score the goals for us.

“So we are looking at it.”

Cavani has been Solskjaer’s first-choice striker when fully fit and firing, pushing Anthony Martial down the pecking order.

With United boasting a core of exceptional young talents, the presence of such an experienced player with a peculiar mindset is vital to keep it all together.
