Supercopa de Espana & Supercoppa Italiana – Preview & Predictions

Wednesday will deliver a couple of cracking fixtures as the Spanish and Italian arch-rivals are set to lock horns in mouth-watering super cup encounters.

Supercopa de Espana – Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Following a one-year hiatus, the Supercopa de Espana returns to Saudi Arabia as Barcelona and Real Madrid battle it out for a place in the grand final.

One of the most highly-anticipated fixtures in world football is set to take place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, with Los Blancos heading into proceedings as betting favourites.

It comes as no surprise that the bookies give Carlo Ancelotti’s side a better chance of winning.

While Barcelona played out an underwhelming 1-1 draw at Granada last time out, Madrid made light work of Valencia at home, cruising to a landslide 4-1 victory.

Additionally, the recent H2H record speaks volumes, with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit winning each of their last four La Liga encounters against the Catalan powerhouse.

Another triumph here would see Madrid register five H2H wins in a row for the first time since 1965, and there’s a genuine feeling they won’t be facing a better opportunity.

Coming into this clash, Xavi’s men have kept just one clean sheet across their last nine competitive games.

That’s particularly worrying, considering they’ve conceded 2+ goals in their last four matches against Madrid.

    Prediction: Real Madrid to win

Supercoppa Italiana – Inter Milan vs Juventus

Defending Serie A champions Inter Milan and reigning Coppa Italia holders Juventus go head-to-head in a blockbuster Supercoppa Italiana showpiece.

With the encounter set to be staged at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Simone Inzaghi’s side should be confident about their chances of snapping a run of four H2H failures (D2, L2).

The Nerazzurri take the field in the midst of a purple patch, having won their last eight Serie A matches in a row, notably keeping six clean sheets in the process.

Adding to Inter’s confidence, they have won their last seven home fixtures in all competitions by an aggregate score of 16-3, prevailing by a 2+ goal margin on four occasions.

In the meantime, Juventus pulled off a stunning 4-3 comeback to beat Roma at the Stadio Olimpico last time out despite trailing 3-1 by the 70th minute.

As a result, they are now unbeaten in their last four competitive games on hostile turf (W3, D1) since falling to a dreadful 4-0 defeat at Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.

    Prediction: Inter Milan to win
