Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that the club may allow Thiago Alcantara to join Liverpool this summer
Thiago has emerged as Liverpool’s top transfer target for the summer, as Jurgen Klopp names the creative midfielder an ideal addition to his well-structured squad.
The German manager is keen to reinforce his team in the coming months, and the name of Alcantara has popped up as a prime objective for the Anfield outfit.
The 29-year-old’s contract at the Allianz Arena will expire at the end of the next season, but the parties have yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations.
According to recent reports, Thiago has already informed the Bavarian giants about his desire to link up with Liverpool, shutting down Bayern’s hopes of extending his deal.
The perennial German champions are reluctant to let their star playmaker leave the Bundesliga for free and are ready to consider Alcantara’s sale in the summer.
Bayern CEO Rummenigge has now confirmed the German’s desire to keep hold of the former Barcelona midfielder, leaving the door open for a possible Liverpool move, though.
“He is a top boy on and off the pitch,” he said, as relayed by the Daily Star.
”We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career.
”We don’t want to lose him for free.
“We never had any contact with Liverpool. If he wants to go there, we will have to deal with it.”
Thiago has been an always-present figure for Bayern ever since joining from Barcelona for €25million in 2013, registering 230 appearances during his seven-year spell in Munich.
However, the lure of playing for the new-found Premier League supreme force seems to be too tempting to resist for the Spain international.
