Underperforming Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara has come under severe criticism following a lackluster display against Leicester City.
Thiago completed a switch to Liverpool after forcing Bayern Munich to give the go-ahead last summer but has since failed to live up to expectations. The Reds forked out around £25million to secure the Spaniard’s services, hoping to entrust him with playing a starring role in the midfield.
Unfortunately, things have turned out to be quite different, with the 29-year-old struggling to adapt to his life in the Premier League. Thiago’s stuttering start to his Anfield career includes an array of troubling moments, including a long-term knee injury that kept him out of action for nearly three months. The ex-Barcelona playmaker has yet to make an impact in the Red jersey after 11 top-flight appearances.
Curiously, Liverpool have lost five of their eight Premier League fixtures with Thiago in the starting line-up, including a dismal 3-1 away defeat at Leicester City last time out. Though Jurgen Klopp’s men took a second-half advantage through Mohamed Salah, a disastrous 12-minute sequence saw the reigning English champions concede three times. It was Thiago who paved the way for Leicester’s comeback. His silly foul on the edge of the box enabled James Maddison to settle the score before Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes nailed final nails in Liverpool’s coffin.

After the match, former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher took to social media to hit out at Thiago’s disappointing performances.
“Liverpool outstanding up until 1-1. Thiago a liability defensively! The Keeper’s decision making gone awol last 2 games!!” Carragher tweeted.

Joining Carragher in questioning Thiago’s suitability for Liverpool was ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermain Jenas.
“I don’t think they’ve definitely got the legs in there [midfield] now,” Jenas said.
“You know when you’ve got one link, either weak or missing in any chain, it breaks down.
“I think it was clear today, when they’re trying to play this high press, for me Thiago was a weak component without the ball for them.
“He was fine with it [at Bayern]. So it’s just within this system at the minute. Whether it’s just the fact that his presses at Bayern Munich were at different times than they are at Liverpool.
“It just seems clear to me he’s doing things he shouldn’t be doing.
‘I feel like he runs himself out of the game. He’s going to press someone when there’s three Leicester players around him, they’ve just popped it around him easily. If he holds his position it’s much more difficult.
“I feel like Thiago is late to the press, he’s run himself out of play.”
