Real Madrid emerged in the last few seasons as the hot favourites to sign him.As it stands, United are aiming to extend his contract by at least another year. They face the possibility of losing him for free in June 2020. On the other hand, they could cash in before then as he would command a tidy sum. It is understood that De Gea strives to compete for the top club honours. That means United have to improve their structures and ambition. At the moment, the club is under some turmoil over the leadership.Manager Jose Mourinho is under fire following a string of poor performances over the course of the last month. De Gea is reportedly unwilling to commit long term because of the many on and off-field issues.
