The former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Barcelona will add a new striker to their stocks despite hoping for Antoine Griezmann to rediscover his best form
Griezmann, who arrived from Atletico Madrid for €120m last summer, has struggled to impress in his first season at Camp Nou, notching up 14 goals in 37 outings across all competitions.
While waiting for the French forward to hit top form, the Catalan giants have received a massive boost ahead of their first La Liga match in the post-pandemic period, as Luis Suarez’s return edges closer.
But, Suarez, 33, has entered the twilight years of his professional career, and the reigning Spanish title holders are looking for a younger attacker to help to shape a new era at the club.
Heavily linked with a move for the Inter Milan star, Lautaro Martinez, Barcelona are likely to recruit a top-class forward when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer.

Now, Arsene Wenger has fuelled speculations about Barca’s interest in the Argentinean striker, insisting the Spanish powerhouse will look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.
“Barcelona has always bought the greatest players. Personally, I’m not sure that Suarez needs to be replaced,” he told beIN SPORTS, as relayed by Goal.com.
“They can add another striker because it’s true that Suarez and [Lionel] Messi are the main contributors, and they might need somebody else who can score goals.
“I still think Griezmann at some stage will start to score goals, he doesn’t look completely adapted, maybe now after confinement, he will be refreshed because he’s a good goalscorer as well.
“But, I’m convinced they will buy another striker as well.”
In addition to Martinez, Barcelona are also keen to bring Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain, although the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic has put that deal in doubt.
