Xavi urges Barcelona to drop interest in two Premier League stars and bring Neymar back instead

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has urged his former club to drop their interest in the two Premier League stars and focus on bringing Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar back to Camp Nou

Barcelona are continued to be linked with a move for Neymar, who was close to re-signing for the Blaugrana last summer before PSG managed to fend off the Catalans’ assault.

The Brazilian superstar has already regretted his decision to leave La Liga for PSG in a blockbuster €222m deal in summer 2017 and has been fighting tooth and nail to secure the Camp Nou return over the past 12 months.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has devastated the clubs’ finances, and Neymar’s comeback has been brought into question as a result of the financial fallout.

Still, the Spanish giants will try to find an agreement with PSG when the transfer window reopens for business after identifying the 28-year-old forward as their prime summer target.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on the two Premier League household names – Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

While the Merseyside giants look to keep hold of their in-demand winger, the Gunners will probably have to say goodbye to their headline performer.

Indeed, Aubameyang will soon enter the final year of his contract at the Emirates, which will force the London outfit to cash in on their captain in the upcoming transfer window unless they convince him to extend his stay until then.

Barcelona are seeking a long-term replacement for the aging Luis Suarez, but the Gabonese forward is already 30 years old and may not fit the bill.

Xavi has now urged his beloved club to switch their attention towards Neymar even if that would mean they have to abandon their interest in the two African stars.

“Mané and Aubameyang can kill you in open space. But Barcelona needs players who know how to move in small spaces,” the famous Spaniard said, as transmitted by the PSGTalk.

“I am thinking about players who would adapt to Barcelona, and it’s not easy to find one. Samuel Eto’o was perfect, as is Luis Suárez right now.

“Football-wise, he is among the three or five best in the world. I hope that he returns to Barcelona. He was [Lionel Messi’s] teammate. He would add a lot,” Xavi said when referring to Neymar.

“A positive character. It would be an extraordinary signing to become a difference-maker,” he concluded.
