Zabaleta thinks City will win the title for one reason

Former Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta believes City’s winning mentality will eventually decide the Premier League title race

With ten fixtures left to play, the reigning holders are fighting Liverpool for the ultimate prize, as they currently sit just one point adrift of the Reds.

However, the Merseysiders have already failed to seize a couple of chances to create a comfortable gap between the sides, which is why Pep Guardiola’s players now feel more confident than ever this season.

After seeing his West Ham United defeated by a narrow 1-0 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Zabaleta has gone public to give support to his former teammates.

The 34-year-old Argentinean is positive Man City’s experience in winning titles will be crucial in their battle to overthrow Jurgen Klopp’s crew.

“Everybody around Liverpool and the fans are just waiting for that Premier League title,” he said.

“City have won it three times in the last few years. It’s important to have won the Premier League previously because we’ve been in this situation before.

“Both times we won the league, we were behind the leaders at this point. Some players in the dressing room now have experience of that. It’ll help for the rest of the players. They can talk to them, keep everyone focused and tell them their experiences. Not the third one last season, but the first two when we were behind. That’s going to be key.”

Zabaleta has also pointed out that Liverpool’s desperation and hunger represent a double-edged sword that only helps Manchester City in this race.

“You can see some of the Liverpool fans, they’ve been waiting for that title and when the teams are not playing well, it seems the fans are a little bit tense,” said the Argentinian.

“That can sometimes make it difficult for the players to concentrate and play well. For Liverpool fans, they’ve never won the Premier League, it’s been 29 years. They were very close in 2013-14 when we won the league. That’s why for them as it goes on, it becomes more exciting.”

Before moving to London, the experienced right-back has won two Premier League titles with the Citizens and has now refused to hide his preference.

“I hope City can keep winning games and retain the title.”
