Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has played down Marco Asensio transfer talks by promising him a more prominent role
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the most talented forwards in Europe during Zizou’s first mandate but has fallen out of favor with Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.
A lack of regular first-team action has seen Asensio being heavily linked with a potential move to the ranks of the Premier League giants Liverpool.
The Reds have allegedly prepared over €100 to lure him to the English top flight at the end of the season.
However, Zidane’s return to the Stadio Santiago Bernabeu means the left-footed forward will regain his influence at Los Blancos.
The youngster has registered barely 13 La Liga starts for the entire campaign but has immediately returned to Los Merengues’ starting XI in Zidane’s first game in charge.
The 46-year-old Frenchman has reassured the Spaniard he is going to play an important role at Real Madrid again.
“I have spoken to him and told him that he will be fundamental to the team. And I want him here with us,” the former World Cup winner said.
